Computer class

A Few Tips for Students and Parents

  1. Our computer class does not have homework unless students can't finish classwork in the given time.

  2. I encourage students to practice typing at home. I'll list online typing practice sites or free typing software you can download.

  3. Most of the computers at New Hope do not have Microsoft Office 2007. If students have to bring a digital file to school, please save as Office 2003 or older.

  4. New Hope does not have Microsoft Works. (Microsoft Works comes with some computers for free, but it is different from Microsoft Word.  We will not be able to open Microsoft Works files.)

  5. If you don't have Microsoft Office please use OpenOffice. (OpenOffice is free application software and is as good or better than Microsoft Office.) It is also compatible with any version of Microsoft Office before 2007. You can download it at: www.openoffice.org - All teachers' computers have OpenOffice installed.

  6. If you don't want to install OpenOffice, get a free Google (or Gmail) account. Google accounts have a service called Google "Documents." It is compatible with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice, comes with word processing, presentation software, and speadsheet software. Also, you can convert documents to PDF files.
